Bullet Points

Dry-seal & Sealant-free: Mills ASME B1.20.3 compliant NPTF truncated crest/root dry-seal profiles, achieving metal-to-metal sealing of mating internal and external threads at rated assembly torque without PTFE tape or sealant;

Two Separate Product Lines: NPTF dry-seal taper threads (ASME B1.20.3) and NPS straight pipe threads (ASME B1.20.1) are two independent lines with different thread profiles that must be selected separately, covering a wide range of pipe specifications;

Integrated Drilling & Milling: A combined drill + thread mill solution completes drilling and threading in one setup, reducing tool changes and re-alignment; cycle time can be shortened by approx. 15%-25% depending on diameter, pitch and batch size. A pilot hole per ASME B1.20.3 recommendation is still required;

Wear-resistant Coating: TiAlN / AlCrN / TiAlSiN coatings matched to the workpiece material (uncoated or DLC/ZrN for aluminium and non-ferrous metals), adapting to harsh oilfield and marine conditions and extending tool service life;

Multi-material Adaptability: Suitable for processing carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, alloy steel and other industrial metal pipes;

Single-profile Tools Handle Both: Single-profile thread mills machine internal (female) and external (male) pipe threads; multi-tooth full-profile tools are limited to internal threads of matching specification;

High-precision & Burr-free: Body radial runout ≤3 um, thread half-angle deviation ≤±15', L1 gauge (go/no-go) acceptance rate ≥99.5%, thread surface Ra ≤1.6 um, reducing product rejection rate.

Applications

Oil & Gas Industry: Suitable for thread processing of high-pressure oil and gas transmission pipelines in oilfields with stable sealing under compliant thread fit and rated assembly torque;

Hydraulic Equipment: Precision thread processing for hydraulic valves, cylinders and pipe joints, adapting to long-term use of hydraulic oil media;

Municipal Water Infrastructure: Thread processing of water supply and sewage pipe fittings with corrosion resistance and firm connection for outdoor infrastructure projects;

HVAC Industry: Sealing thread processing for heating, ventilation and air conditioning pipelines of commercial buildings with high installation compatibility;

Marine Industry: Special coated milling cutters for ship pipelines, resistant to marine corrosion for precision ship pipeline processing.

Hot Q&A

  1. What is the difference between NPS and NPT threads?

Answer: NPS is a cylindrical straight pipe thread without taper; it does not seal by thread form, and its sealing method depends on the connection type (e.g. NPSM mechanical joints use gaskets, NPSL uses sealant). NPT is a tapered pipe thread. Our product mills NPTF dry-seal tapered threads to ASME B1.20.3 with truncated crest and root, available in Class 1 and Class 2. Although NPTF shares the same 1:16 taper with NPT, they are not guaranteed fully interchangeable and must be verified with an L1 gauge. Sealing is achieved by metal-to-metal interference without any sealant, suitable for harsh high-pressure and high-temperature working conditions.

  1. Can this cutter process internal and external pipe threads?

Answer: Yes. With single-profile thread mills and dedicated CNC fixtures, both internal (female) and external (male) NPTF pipe threads can be machined; multi-tooth full-profile tools are limited to internal threads of matching specification, offering high cost performance.

  1. How to extend the tool service life?

Answer: Maintain sufficient lubrication during processing, clean metal shavings in time, and adopt reasonable spindle speed and feed rate to avoid tool overheating and excessive wear, effectively prolonging tool service life.

  1. Do you support customized processing?

Answer: Yes. We support customization of tool size, flute type, coating, thread specification and brand logo, undertaking OEM/ODM orders.
