Characteristics, uses, and types of commonly used reamers

Characteristics of Reamers:Reamer efficiency (precision boring holes are all single edge cutting, while reamers are all 4-8 edge cutting, so the efficiency is much higher than that of boring cutters), high precision, and the reamer edge is equipped with a blade, so better roughness is obtained;

Used for reaming holes that have been drilled, expanded, or bored on workpieces, mainly to improve the machining accuracy of holes and improve the surface roughness of workpieces. It is a tool used for precision and semi precision machining of holes, with generally large machining allowances.

Reamers used to process cylindrical holes are commonly used.

The reamer used to process conical holes is a conical reamer, which is relatively rare to use.

According to usage, there are Hand Reamers and Machine Reamers, which can be divided into straight shank reamers and taper shank reamers. The Hand Reamer is a straight shank type.

The structure of the reamer mainly consists of a working part and a shank. The working part mainly performs cutting and calibration functions, and the diameter at the calibration point has a reverse taper. The shank is used for being clamped by fixtures, and can be divided into a straight shank and a conical shank. There are many types of reamers available for different purposes, so there are also many standards for reamers. Some of the commonly used standards include hand reamers, straight shank machine reamers, taper shank machine reamers, straight shank Morse taper reamers, and so on.
Reamers are divided into hand reamers and machine reamers according to their usage; According to the reaming shape, it can be divided into cylindrical reamers and conical reamers (standard conical reamers have two types: 1:50 taper pin reamers and Machine taper Morse reamers). The chip holding groove direction of reamers has straight grooves and spiral grooves

Reamer accuracy has accuracy levels such as D4, H7, H8, and H9.

According to the shape of the reamed hole, there are three types: cylindrical, conical, and gate shaped;

There are two types of installation clamp methods: handle type and set type;
There are two types of grooves according to their appearance: straight groove and spiral groove

Reamer customization: Among customized non-standard cutting tools, reamers are a more common type of customized cutting tool. Customizing reamers based on different products, hole depth, diameter, accuracy, roughness requirements, and workpiece material will result in better lifespan, accuracy, roughness, and stability.
If you need to process workpieces of different materials, you will also use reamers of different materials, such as carbide Reamer, PCD Reamer, etc

You can also flexibly use various types of reamers, such as step reamers and gun reamers.
